(Guillotine Choke)
Thompson threw a few upright punches, Fries easily ducked under them and took him down 10 seconds into the opening round, pinning Thompson against the fence. Fries tried to take Thompson's back, but Thompson was able to get back to his feet, just enough to allow Thompson to shoot for a terrible takedown of his own. He ran head first into a guillotine choke, and was finished by submission in under 2 minutes. That was a nice win for Philip De Fries, but I'm not sure if anybody takes Thompson seriously at all at this point.
Yahya started this fight by moving forward with his chin high up in the air. They traded a few random punches, and then Griffiths took down Yahya 45 seconds into the round. Griffiths dropped some short elbows, and then around the 2 minute mark, Yahya worked his way back to his feet, only to find himself caught in a guillotine choke. Griffiths tried to pull guard with it, but Yahya pulled his head out, so Yahya was able to posture up and throw some punches down at Griffiths. Griffiths gave up his back, Yahya threw him to the ground again, unloaded with some punches, Griffiths covered up, and the fight was stopped. That was a solid finish by Mohammad Yahya in his Bellator debut.
The first round had both girls bouncing around a lot, circling around each other, trading leg kicks & punches. Letourneau opened up a small cut on Jackson's left cheek, which caused blood to trickle down her face. Round one goes to Letourneau.
The spent the first 2 minutes of the second round, trading random strikes, and then Jackson shot in for a takedown, and Letourneau immediately caught her in a triangle on the way down, and transitioned several times between the triangle & the armbar. Letourneau stood up with 90 seconds left in the round, and threw some kicks at Jackson's legs, while Jackson stayed on the ground. I have Letourneau ahead, 20-18, going into the final round.
The final round was another solid round of kickboxing, with both girls landing some solid shots, but in the end, Letourneau proved to be too much for Jackson, winning all 3 rounds on all 3 scorecards, breaking her 3-Fight losing streak in a successful Bellator debut.
The first round basically just had McDonald walking toward Ligier while throwing front kicks. They traded a few random punches, but for the most part, not a lot was happening until a brief scramble in the final minute, where McDonald tried to score a takedown, which didn't quite work, but he finished the round clinching with Ligier against the fence. Round one goes to McDonald.
The second round was more of the same, with McDonald walking forward with a Muay Thai stance, throwing front kicks, but neither fighter was doing much damage. Ligier clinched 2 minutes into the round, McDonald sort of threw him down, they reset for some more posturing, and then McDonald finally officially took down Ligier halfway through the round, but still couldn't hold him down for more than 30 seconds. Ligier finished the round by clinching with McDonald, but again, nothing really happened. I have McDonald ahead, 20-18, going into the final round.
The final round started with some clinching, McDonald threw down Ligier, couldn't keep him down, so took him down again. They stood back up with 90 seconds left in the round, and then McDonald scored another takedown. This fight wasn't great, but congrats to Michael McDonald for winning his Bellator debut via unanimous decision. I've always liked him, but this fight wasn't very exciting. Hopefully his next fight will be a bit more explosive?
