(Accidental Clash of Heads)
Well, so far this event has been a disaster. Only 9 fights were scheduled, one was cancelled due to to Andrew Craig being sick. Now here we are with an AWESOME opening fight, between two great fighters, and it ends in under a minute, due to an accidental headbutt, where Yahya got knocked out. Really fucked up start for the night, since this was one of the main fights I was personally looking forward to on this card. Up next? A couple of guys I've never heard of... For now, I'm going to mark this one down as a win for Bedford, since technically, they both got hit with headbutts, and Bedford was the only one still standing.
This fight was ok I guess, but it was another debut for two guys I've never heard of, so it was hard to really care about what was going on. Both guys put up a decent fight, I gave the first round to Omer, the third round to Alers, and I had no idea how to score the second round, but all 3 rounds were close... So... Alers wins via split-decision, and I'm fine with that... BUT! Having Alers call out Conor McGregor after this "meh" performance, was a little bit ridiculous. I don't think anyone needs to call out McGregor, unless they're ready to fight in the Top 10 at 145.
Well, this was a pretty quick fight, so not much to say really. Leites threw some punches, knocked "Hot Sauce" to the ground, and Leites cornered him on the ground, and punched him in the face a lot, until the referee stopped the fight. Nice first round TKO by Thales Leites.
This fight was basically just two great big chubby dudes, taking the fight to the ground, and grinding it out. Jared Rosholt clearly won all 3 rounds with his wrestling skills, and that's about all that can be said about this fight. Omielanczuk landed a few good punches, but nothing to come anywhere near winning any rounds.
OH WOW! I've never seen Ramsey Nijem fight like this, he was fucking INSANELY violent in this fight, beating Dariush's face in on the feet, until he fell to the ground, he jumped on him like a tiger, and just absolutely devoured him with punches, hammerfists, just HARD punches on the ground, leaving Dariush's face looking like he had been shot in the face with a shotgun. Ramsey Nijem looked awesome in this fight, and I'm actually looking forward to watching him fight now.
Man, this was a hell of a fight, but I'm sort of pissed about the outcome. Ryan LaFlare clearly won the first round, taking Howard to the ground and controlling him with his wrestling. The second round went to Howard, for beating the shit out of LaFlare and knocking him a little loopy. The problem is, LaFlare threw a HARD knee to the groin, which put Howard down for the full 5 minutes. Howard still came back in that round though, and definitively won it. The third round was very close, starting with Howard almost knocking out LaFlare, but then LaFlare's wrestling took over again, but then on the ground, LaFlare didn't do any damage, and Howard almost locked on a kneebar, so I gave the fight to John Howard, 29-28, but the judges scored it the other way around. So yeah, good fight by both fighters, but it sucks that Howard lost, especially since that groin shot was clearly still bothering him 15 minutes later when the fight was over.
Yeah! This fight was awesome! After seeing Kawajiri's awesome UFC debut a few months ago, where he ran right through Sean Soriano, it was nice seeing him fight a tougher guy, and go the distance. Clay Guida is FUCKING INSANE! His wrestling is fucking nuts, his submission defense was insane, he's quite possibly the scrappiest fighter I've ever seen. Clay Guida is the fucking MAN, and then he called out Conor McGregor AND Josh Thomson, in two different weight classes. And unlike Jim Alers earlier tonight, Clay Guida actually deserves these fights!
BAM! There's not much to say about this fight, other than I was excited to watch it, and I thought maybe it might turn into a grappling match, since it took place in Abu Dhabi, and both of these guys have crazy grappling skills, but Roy Nelson picked apart Nogueira from the start of the fight, until the end of the fight, where he launched an overhand right, knocking Nogueira 100% unconscious. Roy Nelson is the man!!!
